SafeTravellers
SafeTravellers aims to improve the experience of border- and law-enforcement authorities with tools to advance identity verification and boost travel-document security. Using multimodal biometrics, such as face and fingerprints, in a privacy-preserving way to overcome current identity-document weakness, the project seeks to detect and counter attacks like document fraud and biometric manipulation, including morphing.

EINSTEIN
EINSTEIN addresses the challenges of secure identity management in the context of increasingly digitalised borders. The project develops a set of interoperable applications covering the full identity lifecycle, from document issuance to traveller verification. These include tools for online document application and fraud prevention, mobile identity checks, document authentication, border pre-registration, EES kiosks with fraud detection, and fast-track biometric corridors for seamless crossings.

PopEye
PopEye focuses on enhancing the security and efficiency at EU external borders while preserving travellers’ privacy and fundamental rights. For this, the project develops robust and on-the-move biometric technologies that improve accuracy, reliability and throughput in passenger identification. It explores multi-camera 2D face recognition, contactless fingerprint (friction ridge) recognition, and iris recognition in both visible and near-infrared spectra. Combining these modalities through biometric fusion provides a faster and more secure border crossing experience.

CarMen
CarMen aims to modernise and streamline border management through the use of on-the-move biometrics. Its goal is to reduce waiting times while maintaining a high level of security at European borders. The project is developing a scalable and fully automated system that is capable of continuous traveller identification across different transposition modes, including in-vehicle and on foot. It integrates DTCs and facial recognition to enable non-stop, seamless border crossings.
